When Silence is a Perversion of Politeness

"Religious freedom is one of the most basic of human rights, and one in peril in much of the world", writes NY Times' Nicholas Kristof in this excellent piece on a subject that is often under-discussed when it comes to global issues.

Sweeping generalisations are dangerous in these discussions and can oversimplify cases with very complex historical, social, cultural, and political antecedents. However, as Kristof unapologetically states, our response to religious intolerance should be simple: it is unacceptable, whether or not it is awkward to make a stand.
